What is Beginner Synchronized Skating?
The Edmonton Ice Crystals are our Beginner level synchro team. This program provides skaters an introduction to competitive synchronized skating for skaters who have passed a recommended minimum of Stage 3 CanSkate.
Our beginner team competes at nonqualifying competitions within the province according to the Skate Canada Assess to Standard framework. Assess to Standard is an exciting new Skate Canada competition system that introduces young figure skaters to competitions. The philosophy of the system is based on the principles within Skate Canada’s guide to Long-Term Athlete Development (LTAD). This guide provides the optimal framework for how young skaters should experience their first events. (For more information about this team, you can click on the “Synchro Teams” tab)
Our beginner team does not hold team placement sessions. If skaters are under the age of 12 and have completed & passed CanSkate level 3, they have likely met the minimum skill requirement and would be eligible to join this category. Please email us at firstname.lastname@example.org if you have a skater that is interested in skating at the beginner level.
